Checking Whether the PPPoE Client Can Receive Heartbeat Messages Successfully

Procedure

  1. Log in to the PPPoE client and run the debugging ppp lcp all interface dialer 0 command to check whether the PPPoE client can receive heartbeat messages successfully.

    <Huawei> debugging ppp lcp all interface dialer 0
    <Huawei>
    Jan 21 2008 19:20:37.790.2+08:00 AR1220-B MID_PPP/7/debug2:
      PPP Packet:
          Dialer0:0 Output LCP(c021) Pkt, Len 12
          State opened, code EchoRequest(09), id c0, len 8
          Magic Number 0560b017

    If only Output Echo Request messages are displayed but no Input Echo Reply messages are included in the debugging information, the client did not receive heartbeat messages.

  2. By default, if a client does not receive any response after sending four heartbeat messages, it tears down the link with the server. Heavy traffic and low-quality transmission may cause the loss of heartbeat messages. You can change the number of times for retransmitting heartbeat packets.
